End of Year Reflections

This year has gone so quickly! I’ve been involved in  the school band, Jazz band, school council and many more things. Over the past term, I have been focusing on the school magazine. Along with the other members of the group; Erin and some others, we managed to finish the magazine. We did a really good job on it and I cant wait to see it!

I have done well with most of my school work, and I pretty much get it in on time all the time. I enjoy working in groups/partners and I also like working by myself. For my visual language I am working well by myself and I am getting lots of it done.

For my Maths, I haven’t really done all that much because I was out with band, but I have caught up. I find most of it pretty reasonable and I work hard-ish to get it done!

I haven’t really done that much English, and I find that it is one of my weaker subjects, so I will work on that next year.

I find most work easy enough to cope with and I like the challenges that Room three has given me!

For tech arts, I have made things like a jersey, teddy bear, butterfly and paintings. I try my hardest to succeed and I enjoy tech.

I have learned soooo much during this year and last year. I also got into the extension class at the college which is awesome.

Term 4 Goals

Goals for Term 4:

  • Practice hard and do well for athletics. I can do this by having a good attitude and doing my best.
  • Get a good mark for my clarinet exam. I will do this by practicing lots in the holidays and making sure I know everything I am going to play on the day.
  • Finish the magazine. As a committee, we will work hard on it to get it done.
  • Stay up to date with my maths. I will do this by concentrating on my work.

Term 3 Week 10

This is the last week of the term.

Last Friday the year eights going to Te Awamutu college had a test in the hall. We had to do both Maths and English. We did English first, I found it hard but I finished on time and I did my best. For the maths one, I found most of it really easy, but I ran out of time which sucked. I think I did ok in both the tests, but better in the Maths one.

This week for maths we have been doing 3D shapes and we have to identify them and draw them. We did a Geometry test today, I found some of it easy and then other parts I didn’t even know what to do. I hope I did ok in the test, because I do understand most of the maths we get given but when we do tests, my marks don’t show that.

This week my English task has been to work on the magazine. The rest of the class is doing something on Cinderella but I’m not sure if the magazine committee have to do it??? We have been getting lots of stuff done for the magazine but there is still so much more to do on it, next term will be so busy…

For our inquiry, it’s just Lauren and I because Mia is at sports camp. We have got lots done on it, and we just need to glue things out and print/draw some pictures. I think that our poster is good, it tells you what you’ll need if an earthquake strikes and some handy hints as well. As a group, we hope that it will turn out to be a really good poster and we hope to get good marks on it.

In tech on Tuesday, it was the second time I went. We have to make something out of wood/plastic/and any other things we can find. I am making a butterfly, with two little holding things.

My goals for the rest of the week:

To finish all my class work, so I’ll be up to date next term.

To get lots of magazine stuff done. I can do this by co-operating with the rest of the committee and working hard.

Week 9 Term 3

This week for maths we have been doing rotational symmetry and line symmetry. We have also learned how to enlarge and reduce shapes. This is what I wrote about enlarging and reducing shapes:

I learned how to reduce and enlarge shapes

Then I had a picture of a small shape and I enlarged it by 2 because that was the scale factor. I learned that if the scale factor is 1/2 then you reduce the shape and not enlarge it. If the dot is in the middle of the shape before you enlarge or reduce it, then when you do enlarge/reduce the shape, the dot has to be in the middle.

What I learned about total order of symmetry:

I learned that the total order of symmetry is the lines of symmetry and the rotational symmetry put together. If a shape has 3 lines of symmetry and 3 lines of rotational symmetry, the total order is 6.

We have also been writing an argument on homework. I am against homework. I think that I did an okay job for my writing, I used transition words and varied sentence starters.

My goals for next week:

On Friday we are doing the college testing, so I want to do really well in that. I will do this be concentrating when I do the test and not giving up.

To finish all my maths. I can do this by working really hard and not getting distracted.

To get a good mark on my homework argument.

Term3 Week 8

On Monday our team, rooms 1,2,and 3, went up to the tech block to make a boil up. We all had jobs that we had to do. Mine was washing the watercress. As well as making the boil up, we also made things like poi, flowers made of flax, carvings and some other things, to celebrate maori language week. When the boil up had finished cooking, we all went into the music room and ate. I only had some bread because the rest didn’t look that yummy!

For maths I was way behind because  I went to Belmont but I am not behind now. I’ve learned that when translating a shape, you have to put the horizontal move first then the vertical, eg- (4,7) would be 4 to the right and 7 up. If you want to write left and down, you put a ‘-’ before it eg- (-4, 7) would be 4 to the left and 7 up. (4,-7) would be 4 right 7 down, because of the little mark. (-4,-7) would be 4 left and 7 down.

For writing, last week we had to edit our final argument. When I got my work back from Mrs Crowe, I was kind of surprised, I thought it was going to be full of mistakes, but it only had a little. One thing  I do need to work on is putting commas where they are needed, because she kept writing incorrect use of comma or something.

We have also been doing ‘Showing not Telling’, which I find kinda hard because I suck at it, but I think I am getting better.

My goals for next week:

  • To stay up to date with my maths. I will do this by concentrating hard on it, and not getting distracted.
  • To make a good poster, with my group, Lauren and Mia. We will do this be working well as a group and not mucking around.
  • To get a goof mark in the test for the college. I will do this by concentrating on the test, and not getting distracted.

Week 6 term 3

This week we had a band competition, which was held at Te Awamutu Intermediate. First to play was the TAI Jazz band. We played Drama for your Mamma, Rodger the Dodger, and Ants in the Pants. At first we were all out of time, and we weren’t doing to well, but then on the last song we finally got it right. After that we listened to Pirongia Jazz band. They were good, but we thought some of their songs were really boring. At o’clock the symphonic band went to the music room and started to warm up. We went through all the songs, and then Mrs Germann asked what the time was. We were spose to be playing at 11.30 but by the time we got in, it was already 11.45. When we entered the ALC most of the school was there cheering for us. We played Spiderman, ceremonium, my heart will go on, latin fire, St louis blues rock, star wars. When everyone was finished, they did the awards. TAI Jazz band came 1st and TAI symphonic band came 1st. We must have done really well.

For maths, we are doing angles. I’ve only just started it but I am getting most of it.

I finished my discussion argument this week. I think I have done okay on that.

My goals:

To get good marks on my discussion argument.

To do well and have fun at Belmont sports exchange.

To finish all my maths.

Term 3 Week 1

This week was the first of term 1.

On Wednesday Rooms one, two and three,  went up to the tech block to do wearable arts. Sophie and I had finished our dress in the holidays so we just had to do our shoes. We got them done and they look cool. Here are some photos:

Weve been running everyday pretty much. I have got better, I think. The first time we did a team run I came 28th, then 15th then 10th.

I’ve been getting on with my work and get what Ive needed done, done.

Goals:

To get in the school finals for wearable arts.

To get all my work done. I will do this by concentrating on it.

Term 3 Goals

Term 3 Goals:

  1. To get into the school finals for wearable arts. Sophie and I have done a good job on our dress, and we hope it goes through.
  2. To get in the top 15 year 8 girls for cross country. I will do this by practicing running, and having a good attitude towards it. I will also keep running, even when I have the stitch and feel like I can’t run any more.
  3. To write and perform a good speech on ‘Animal Cruelty’. I will do this by taking my time on writing it, that way I won’t have rushed it and it will make sense. I will also get some information on animal cruelty, that way I can prove that animal cruelty is horrible. As well as that, I will make sure that I speak clearly in front of the class when I say it.
  4. Concentrate on class work. I will do this by reading and listen to what the teacher says, and write about my work. That way I will take in what she says, and make my work better.
  5. Overall, this term I want to try my hardest in everything, and get good results.

Wearable Arts

This term the whole school is focusing on wearable arts. I am doing mine with Sophie. In the holidays we measured and cut out the foil lined bubble wrap, which we are using for our costume. We made the dress in just a couple of days, but it looks awesome, well that’s what we think anyway. We cut little ‘v’ into the skirt so that if flinged out and wasn’t just straight down. Then we attached that to the bodice part of the dress. As well as the dress we have shoes, and jewellery. We got my shoes and made flowers out of the bubble wrap, that way Sophie could wear the shoes, because they had been modified. For the jewellery we just used the rings off the lids for earrings, and bracelets. As well as this we made a handbag. Altogether our costume looks pretty good, and we hope that we get a chance to be in the school finals.

Term 2 Week 10

We are now onto science for tech arts. Today we learned about ‘matter’. We did a little task on heating water until it bubbles (100 degrees), then we put salt in it, and saw how it evaporated. Miss Green also showed us her  Darth Vader trick.

In maths I learned about multiplying and dividing fractions. I also did converting fractions, decimals and %.  I’ve been finding most of it easy but I sometimes get confused with percentages. I can convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions, but I sometimes get confused with the percentages and I do it wrong or do it a longer way.

I finished my book review and put it in the folder this morning. I don’t think it was my best book review and I could have done it better.

In English I am up to vocab thirteen I think.

For french we have to make up something with everything that we have learned in french. We are performing it tomorrow in our groups.

My Goals:

My main goal for this week is to get a good score in the maths test that we are going to do. I will do this by concentrating hard on my maths and trying to remember everything that I have learned about fractions, decimals and percentages.

Finish my vocab.

Get a good score in french for the task that we are doing.
